Egypt’s fourth-place finish at the Women’s U18 World Handball Championship was far more than just another result. It marked a historic breakthrough for Egyptian women’s handball, as the national youth team reached the World Championship semifinals for the first time.

Although Egypt missed out on the bronze medal after losing to Denmark, the tournament provided a major indication of the talent emerging within Egyptian women’s handball, with several players standing out against some of the strongest teams in the world.

A Remarkable Run to the Semifinals

Egypt made an impressive start to the tournament, winning all of its group-stage matches against Croatia, France and Fiji.

The team continued its strong run in the main round, securing important victories over South Korea and Denmark before producing one of the tournament’s biggest surprises in the quarterfinals.

Egypt defeated Asian champions China 30-29 in a thrilling quarterfinal clash, booking its place in the last four.

The Egyptian side then came within one goal of reaching the World Championship final, suffering a narrow 27-26 defeat to Spain in the semifinals.

In the bronze-medal match, Denmark defeated Egypt 23-19, leaving the Egyptian team in fourth place.
