Egyptian refereeing has reached a historic milestone after FIFA announced the selection of four Egyptian officials for the FIFA World Cup 2026, set to be held across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

This marks the first time a full Egyptian refereeing team will participate in the World Cup, highlighting the growing international trust in Egyptian officiating standards.

A complete Egyptian officiating team

The selected crew includes Amin Omar as the main referee, assisted by Mahmoud Abou El-Regal and Ahmed Hossam Taha, while Mahmoud Ashour will serve as a VAR official.

This full-team inclusion reflects strong confidence in their abilities to handle high-pressure matches on football’s biggest stage.

Strict preparations ahead of the tournament

As part of the preparation process, FIFA’s refereeing committee, led by Pierluigi Collina, has instructed selected referees to avoid officiating international friendlies during the March break, ensuring full focus and readiness for the tournament.

The World Cup is scheduled to kick off on June 11, with global anticipation rising as the competition expands in scale and intensity.
