El Shenawy Suspended Ahead of the World Cup as Shobeir Steps into Focus for Al Ahly

The Egyptian Professional Clubs Association has announced a series of disciplinary decisions following the first round of the championship stage in the 2025-2026 Egyptian Premier League, sparking widespread debate among fans and analysts.
The sanctions targeted several key figures involved in the clash between Al Ahly and Ceramica, with major penalties imposed on players, officials, and both clubs due to multiple violations, including issues related to VAR regulations.
El Shenawy Leads the Sanctions List
Al Ahly goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy received the harshest punishment, as he was handed a four-match suspension along with a fine of 50,000 EGP for misconduct towards the referee.
Additionally, he was fined 2,500 EGP following his red card for receiving two yellow cards during the match, further compounding his disciplinary record.
Walid Salah, Al Ahly’s football director, was also suspended for one match and fined 5,000 EGP due to accumulated bookings, highlighting the strict enforcement of rules during this crucial stage of the season.
The club itself was fined 20,000 EGP for failing to comply with regulations requiring technical staff to keep a distance from VAR review areas.
Ceramica Also Punished
Ceramica did not escape punishment either, as forward Fakhri Lakay received a one-match suspension due to accumulated yellow cards, along with a financial penalty.
Moreover, two members of the technical staff — performance analyst Wael Raafat and coach Amin Omar — were both suspended for one match and fined after being sent off during the game.
The club was also fined 20,000 EGP for violating VAR-related regulations, mirroring the sanction imposed on Al Ahly.
These decisions underline the league’s commitment to maintaining discipline and control during the decisive phase of the competition, especially as the title race intensifies.
