Egypt’s world No.1 Mostafa Asal has been fined £10,000 by the Professional Squash Association (PSA) for Code of Conduct breaches during his Qatar Classic quarter-final against compatriot Aly Abou Eleinen and the immediate post-match interviews.

The decision was announced on Thursday, 8 October 2026.

£3,000 of the Fine Suspended

The PSA suspended £3,000 of the total fine, leaving Asal with £7,000 payable.

The sanction carries no immediate playing ban.

However, a further similar breach between 6 October 2026 and 6 October 2027 would trigger an automatic eight-week suspension from the PSA Squash Tour.

The suspended £3,000 would also become payable if that condition is breached.

Hand-grabbing Incident against Abou Eleinen

The case stemmed from Asal’s quarter-final against Abou Eleinen in Doha on 15 September 2026, when he grabbed his opponent’s arm during a third-game rally.

The referee penalised Asal by awarding a conduct stroke to Abou Eleinen.

Asal later said the incident was unintentional and that he had grabbed Abou Eleinen’s arm to regain his balance after stumbling and fearing he would twist his ankle.

He went on to win the match 3-1.

The investigation also covered Asal’s interviews immediately after the match.

The breaches concerned five sections of the PSA Code of Conduct: unprofessional conduct, public relations, audible obscenity, unsportsmanlike conduct and aggravated behaviour.

Asal Accepts the Sanction

The PSA confirmed that Asal accepted the decision and chose not to appeal.

He remains eligible to compete, with the conditional suspension applying if he commits a further similar breach during the specified period.
