Ahmed Sherif Scores as Zamalek Beat Petroleum Assiut to Draw Level on Points with Al Ahly in the Egyptian Premier League

Zamalek returned to winning ways in the Egyptian Premier League after securing an important 1-0 victory over Petroleum Assiut on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria, in the seventh round of the competition.
The victory came at an important time for the White Knights, following their 2-0 defeat against rivals Al Ahly in the previous round.
Zamalek managed to recover from that setback and strengthen their position near the top of the league table.
Ahmed Sherif was the match winner, scoring the only goal of the game to secure three valuable points and help his team regain confidence ahead of their upcoming fixtures.
Sherif Secures Victory
Zamalek entered the match looking to take an early lead and reduce the pressure on their players following the disappointing defeat against Al Ahly.
Their efforts paid off in the 26th minute when Ahmed Sherif received the ball inside the penalty area and fired a shot into the net, giving Zamalek a 1-0 advantage.
The goal put the White Knights in a stronger position, while Petroleum Assiut tried to respond and find an equalizer through attacking moves.
Petroleum Assiut continued searching for a way back into the match but failed to make the most of their opportunities.
Zamalek protected their narrow lead until the final whistle and secured an important victory.
Sherif's goal was significant not only because it decided the result but also because it came at a time when Zamalek needed to rebuild confidence after suffering their first league defeat of the season against Al Ahly.
Zamalek Chase Al Ahly
The victory took Zamalek to 16 points, placing them third in the Egyptian Premier League standings, level on points with second-placed Al Ahly.
The result gives the White Knights an important boost as they continue their push toward the top positions.
Their defeat in the Cairo derby had interrupted their positive run, making a quick return to winning form particularly valuable.
Meanwhile, Petroleum Assiut remained on five points in 16th place, increasing the pressure on the team to improve its results in the coming rounds.
The win represents a positive step for Zamalek under head coach Moatamed Gamal, as the team responded quickly to its previous defeat and avoided dropping further points.
Although Zamalek won by just one goal, collecting all three points was the most important outcome for a side determined to remain among the leading teams in the competition.
The White Knights will now look to build on this result in their upcoming matches.
However, improving their attacking efficiency and making better use of scoring opportunities will be important if they want to produce more consistent performances throughout the season.
