South African coach Pitso Mosimane is preparing to return to Cairo, but this time in a very different role, after taking charge of the South Africa national team. His side will face Egypt in an international friendly on October 4 at Cairo International Stadium.

The match will have a special meaning for Mosimane, who knows Cairo very well after spending one of the most successful periods of his coaching career in Egypt with Al Ahly before leaving the club and taking on several jobs outside the country.

Mosimane Returns

Mosimane recently took charge of South Africa, beginning a new chapter with Bafana Bafana and setting up a return to Egypt through international football after years of being closely linked with Egyptian fans because of his successful spell with Al Ahly.

Mosimane is expected to arrive in Cairo with the South African squad during the upcoming international break, and the Egypt friendly will not be their only match on Egyptian soil.

South Africa are also scheduled to face Eritrea on September 30 in a 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier played at a neutral venue in Egypt, before remaining in Cairo for the friendly against the Pharaohs a few days later.

Egypt will face South Africa at 9:00 PM on October 4 at Cairo International Stadium, setting up an interesting tactical meeting between Egypt head coach Hossam Hassan and Mosimane, who is beginning a new spell in charge of his national team.

The fixture will also bring Mosimane back to a stadium he knows well from his time with Al Ahly, when he led the Egyptian club in many major matches and won several domestic and continental trophies.

Egypt's Schedule

The South Africa friendly is part of Egypt's plan to make full use of the international break, with Hossam Hassan keen to test his players against a strong African opponent and improve the team's readiness and understanding.

Egypt's training camp will begin on September 21 and continue until October 6, with three matches scheduled during that period, including two competitive fixtures in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and the friendly against South Africa.

The Pharaohs will begin their qualifying campaign against Angola on September 25 at Cairo International Stadium before travelling to Juba to face South Sudan on September 29.

After completing the two qualifying matches, Egypt will return to Cairo to continue preparations for the South Africa friendly, which will provide the coaching staff with another serious test against one of Africa's competitive national teams.

Egypt have been drawn in Group B of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers alongside Angola, South Sudan and Malawi, as the coaching staff looks to prepare the squad early for the next stages of the campaign.

Mosimane's return to Cairo adds another layer of interest to the friendly. His history in Egyptian football and his strong connection with Al Ahly supporters mean the October 4 match will be more than just a preparation game, with several stories coming together at Cairo International Stadium.
