Trabzonspor Takes Legal Action Over Unauthorised Commercial Use of Mohamed Salah’s Name and Image

Mohamed Salah’s strong start with Trabzonspor has quickly created major attention both on and off the pitch. While the Egyptian star has been making headlines with his performances, the Turkish club has now moved to address a different issue involving his name, image and the club’s shirt.
Trabzonspor has warned against the unauthorized commercial use of Salah’s name and photographs, after the club noticed advertisements and promotional campaigns using the player’s image, his name and the team’s shirt without official approval.
The club’s move comes at a time when Salah is attracting huge interest following his arrival in Turkey. That attention increased even further after he produced an outstanding performance against Galatasaray, helping Trabzonspor secure a 4-0 victory and scoring a hat-trick.
Salah’s Name Becomes the Center of a Commercial Dispute
Trabzonspor explained that the huge popularity surrounding Salah’s arrival has encouraged some companies and commercial organizations to try to benefit from his marketing value.
According to the club, some advertisements and promotional campaigns have used Salah’s name and image, along with Trabzonspor’s shirt, without receiving the necessary permission.
The club says the issue goes beyond simply using a player’s photograph in an advertisement. Such campaigns could also create the impression that Salah or Trabzonspor officially supports, sponsors or has a commercial partnership with the company behind the advertisement.
Trabzonspor stressed that Salah being a member of the squad does not give third parties the right to use his name or image to promote products and services.
The same applies to the club’s shirt and brand. Using these elements in commercial campaigns without authorization could suggest an official relationship that does not actually exist.
The situation has become more important because of Salah’s significant commercial and public profile. His name and image can generate major attention for advertising campaigns, making unauthorized use particularly valuable to companies seeking wider exposure.
Trabzonspor also pointed to the potential impact on Salah’s personal image rights, as well as the club’s trademark rights, reputation and commercial interests.
Trabzonspor Documents Violations and Prepares Legal Action
The Turkish club has gone beyond issuing a warning. Trabzonspor said it has started identifying and documenting advertisements and commercial content that it believes are using Salah’s rights or the club’s rights without authorization.
The club is also preparing to take the necessary legal and judicial measures against parties found to be involved in such practices.
The move comes as Trabzonspor enjoys an increased level of attention following Salah’s arrival, with that attention rising even further after his impressive display against Galatasaray and his three-goal performance.
Through its latest warning, the club is seeking to establish clear limits for companies and commercial organizations, making it clear that Salah’s popularity does not mean his name or image can be freely used for advertising purposes.
As a result, Salah’s story with Trabzonspor has now expanded beyond football. After making a major impact on the pitch, the Egyptian star has also become part of a commercial and legal issue, with Trabzonspor seeking to protect both its new star and the club’s brand from unauthorized commercial use.
