After Injury with Al Wakrah, Hamdi Fathy Undergoes Nose Surgery and Provides an Update on His Condition

Egypt’s national team received another setback during the international break after Hamdi Fathy, the Al-Wakrah midfielder, underwent nose surgery and was ruled out of the current Pharaohs camp due to an injury he suffered with his club.
Hamdi Fathy shared a photo from the hospital on his social media accounts and confirmed that he had undergone the operation, with fans wishing him a quick recovery and a fast return to football.
The midfielder picked up the injury while playing for Al-Wakrah against Al-Sailiya in the Qatar Cup before the international break, which forced him to miss Egypt’s current national team squad.
An Important Absence for Egypt’s Plans
Egypt national team director Ibrahim Hassan confirmed that Fathy’s injury made it difficult for him to join the team’s current matches, as the player needs time for recovery and rehabilitation before returning to action.
Hamdi Fathy has been one of Egypt’s important players in recent years. He has made 67 international appearances and scored three goals for the national team, becoming one of the trusted options in midfield.
His absence comes alongside other injury-related missing players, including Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet and Yasser Ibrahim, creating additional challenges for head coach Hossam Hassan during the international break.
Egypt’s Preparation for AFCON Qualifiers
Egypt are preparing for two matches in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The team faced Angola and will then play South Sudan before a friendly match against South Africa on October 4.
The technical staff hopes to keep the available players ready, especially with the importance of the upcoming period and the need for as many key players as possible.
Although Hamdi Fathy will miss the current camp, Egypt are waiting for his return after completing his recovery process, as he remains an important midfield option thanks to his experience and ability to contribute both defensively and offensively.
