Before the Cairo Derby.. Zamalek Turn to Youngsters and Reserves Against ZED as Key Players Rest for Al Ahly

Zamalek’s coaching staff, led by Moatamed Gamal, are preparing to make major changes to the team for the upcoming Capital of Egypt Cup match against ZED, with several reserves and young players expected to receive an opportunity while key starters are rested ahead of the Cairo Derby against Al Ahly.
Zamalek are scheduled to face ZED on October 7 at Arab Contractors Stadium after the game was moved from Cairo International Stadium and brought forward by 24 hours.
Chance for Young Players
The coaching staff are planning to depend on players who have had limited game time in recent weeks, alongside several academy talents and players returning from injury.
Mohamed Osama is among the young players expected to be promoted to the senior squad for the match, while other academy players could also be given a chance to show what they can offer.
The ZED game will not only be used to rest regular starters. Zamalek also want to improve the fitness and match readiness of their substitutes and give the coaching staff more options for the busy period ahead.
Players returning from injuries could also benefit from the match, as it gives them a chance to regain match fitness gradually instead of being pushed directly into a demanding fixture such as the derby against Al Ahly.
As part of their preparations, Zamalek also played a friendly against Modern Sport, with the technical staff looking to keep different members of the squad ready for the coming matches.
Focus on the Derby
The decision to rest some of the main players comes with the highly anticipated meeting against Al Ahly scheduled for October 11 at Cairo International Stadium in the sixth round of the Egyptian Premier League.
Moatamed Gamal wants his key players to enter the derby in the best possible physical condition, especially with only four days separating the ZED match from the Al Ahly clash.
That makes the Capital of Egypt Cup fixture an important test for several groups inside the squad. Young players will have the chance to prove they are ready for senior football, substitutes will look to move higher in the coach’s plans, and players returning from injury will try to regain their rhythm.
At the same time, Zamalek will continue preparing their main players for the derby as the coaching staff try to balance competing in the Capital of Egypt Cup with protecting the team’s key players ahead of one of the biggest matches of the season.
