Egypt secured their first win of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with an impressive 5-0 victory over South Sudan at Juba National Stadium on Tuesday in the second round of Group B.

The Pharaohs entered the game looking for a strong response after their goalless draw against Angola in the opening round. Egypt controlled most of the match and turned their dominance into five goals, earning three important points and moving to the top of the group.

Egypt in Control

Egypt started aggressively and created their first major chance after only two minutes when Emam Ashour beat the final defender before sending his shot just wide of the post.

Mostafa Ziko then tested the South Sudan goalkeeper with a powerful effort, while Rami Rabia also came close with a header following a cross from Haytham Hassan.

Egypt kept pushing and finally opened the scoring in the 36th minute. Ahmed Fattouh delivered a dangerous cross from the left side, and Ziko finished the move to give the Pharaohs a deserved lead.

Egypt quickly doubled their advantage after the break. In the 49th minute, Mohanad Lasheen played a long pass behind the South Sudan defence, allowing Omar Marmoush to control the ball and fire a low shot into the net.

A few minutes later, Egypt were forced into a change after Fattouh suffered a muscle problem, with Karim Hafez replacing him in the 53rd minute.

South Sudan tried to respond, but Egypt remained the more dangerous team. Ibrahim Adel added the third goal in the 75th minute after breaking through the defence and finishing strongly past the goalkeeper.

Marmoush then scored his second goal of the match and Egypt's fourth in the 82nd minute. He received the ball inside the penalty area, went around the goalkeeper and calmly finished into the empty net.

The fifth goal arrived in stoppage time through Hamza Abdel Karim. The young forward reacted quickly after the goalkeeper saved an effort from Osama Faisal and turned the loose ball into the net in the 90+1 minute.

Group Leaders

The victory took Egypt to four points from their opening two matches, putting them at the top of Group B following the draw against Angola and the big win in Juba.

Malawi sit behind Egypt with three points, while Angola have one point. South Sudan remain bottom of the group without a point.

Egypt started the match with Mostafa Shobeir in goal, behind Mohamed Hany, Hossam Abdelmaguid, Rami Rabia and Ahmed Fattouh. Mohanad Lasheen, Marwan Attia and Emam Ashour formed the midfield, while Haytham Hassan, Mostafa Ziko and Omar Marmoush led the attack.

The result gives Egypt an important boost early in their qualifying campaign. More importantly, the Pharaohs rediscovered their attacking strength, scoring five goals away from home after failing to find the net in their opening match against Angola.
