Moatamed Gamal Misses Zamalek's Trip After Emergency Surgery.. Will He Be Ready for APR FC Clash?

Zamalek have faced an unexpected development ahead of their upcoming CAF Champions League clash against APR FC of Rwanda, after head coach Moatamed Gamal was unable to travel with the squad on Monday evening, October 12, 2026, following surgery that requires a short recovery period.
Gamal underwent surgery at a hospital on Monday after suffering from back pain.
Doctors advised him to delay his trip until his condition improves and he is medically ready to return to his coaching duties.
Surgery Update
The medical team recommended that Gamal rest for 48 hours following the operation to allow him to recover before traveling to Rwanda and joining the Zamalek squad.
As a result, his departure has been rescheduled for Wednesday instead of Monday evening.
He is expected to join the team before the important African fixture, provided his recovery goes as planned.
The situation comes at an important time for Zamalek as the club prepares to begin its CAF Champions League campaign.
The coaching staff will continue preparing the players despite the head coach's delayed arrival.
Meanwhile, Zamalek's board of directors wished Gamal a speedy recovery and expressed its support during his recovery period, hoping to see him return to his coaching responsibilities as soon as possible.
Rwanda Clash
Zamalek are preparing to face APR FC on Friday, October 16, in the first leg of the CAF Champions League second preliminary round, with the Egyptian side aiming to secure a positive result away from home.
The White Knights hope to make a strong start to their continental campaign, as a good result in the first leg would give them an important advantage ahead of the return match and improve their chances of progressing further in the competition.
Gamal is expected to join the squad on Wednesday, two days before the match.
This would give him an opportunity to oversee the final preparations and make the last adjustments to the team's tactical plan, subject to medical clearance.
Zamalek supporters will be hoping that their head coach returns on schedule, especially with the importance of the upcoming fixture.
The match represents the team's first African challenge of the new season, with fans hoping for a result that boosts confidence ahead of the second leg.
