Referee's Report Spares Emam Ashour Punishment After Celebration in Front of Zamalek Bench

New reports have clarified the situation surrounding Al Ahly midfielder Emam Ashour following his celebration in front of Zamalek's substitutes' bench during the 133rd Cairo derby in the Egyptian Premier League.
The incident sparked debate after the match, with questions raised about whether the Egyptian Professional Clubs Association would take disciplinary action against Ashour for his behavior near Zamalek's coaching staff and substitutes.
According to sports presenter Khaled El Ghandour, Ashour is not expected to face punishment because neither the referee's official report nor the match observer's report contains any accusation against the player.
Referee Report Settles the Issue
Speaking on his television program Stadium Al Mehwar, Khaled El Ghandour cited sources within the Egyptian Professional Clubs Association who confirmed that the Slovenian referee did not show Emam Ashour a yellow or red card for his celebration in front of Zamalek's bench.
He also explained that the referee did not mention the incident in his official match report, making disciplinary action against the Al Ahly midfielder unlikely, according to the information provided by his sources.
El Ghandour added that the absence of any official remarks from the referee or match observer strengthens Ashour's position, as match reports are among the documents used by disciplinary authorities when reviewing incidents.
Ashour's Apology Eases Tensions
Khaled El Ghandour also addressed reports suggesting that Emam Ashour apologized to members of Zamalek's bench after the final whistle.
He explained that this information had reached his team through media reports rather than an official announcement.
El Ghandour stressed that, based on the information available to him, no punishment would be issued against Ashour as long as neither the referee nor the match observer officially recorded the incident.
The celebration had generated mixed reactions among Al Ahly and Zamalek supporters, reopening discussions about player behavior during Cairo derby matches and the disciplinary measures that may follow controversial incidents.
For now, the information shared by El Ghandour suggests that Emam Ashour will avoid punishment over the incident, although any further official decision from the Egyptian Professional Clubs Association remains to be seen.
