Ibrahim Hassan Confirms Hamdi Fathi's Egypt Absence and Sends Strong Message About El Shenawy

Ibrahim Hassan, Egypt's national football team director, has addressed several important issues surrounding the Pharaohs, including Hamdi Fathi's availability for the upcoming training camp, recent reports about disagreements within the coaching staff, and the controversy involving goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy.
Speaking on ON Sport, Hassan revealed details of a recent meeting between the national team's coaching staff and senior officials of the Egyptian Football Association (EFA).
He explained that the discussions were positive and focused on maintaining stability ahead of Egypt's upcoming matches.
Hassan said the meeting with EFA President Hany Abo Rida and Vice President Khaled El Daramally took place in a calm atmosphere.
The officials discussed several important matters and reached an understanding without any major disagreements affecting the team's preparations.
The Egypt team director also expressed frustration over inaccurate reports about the coaching staff and players.
He explained that some statements had been shared without their full context, creating unnecessary controversy.
He stressed that the coaching staff, led by head coach Hossam Hassan, remains focused on preparing the players and achieving positive results, with the national team's interests always coming first.
The meeting was also attended by EFA Secretary-General Dr.
Mostafa Azzam.
Discussions included ways to support the coaching staff and improve cooperation with Egyptian clubs to provide the best possible environment for the national team.
Hamdi Fathi Ruled Out of Egypt's Upcoming Camp
Ibrahim Hassan confirmed that Hamdi Fathi will miss Egypt's next training camp because of injury, explaining that the coaching staff continues to monitor players' fitness before making final squad decisions.
Egypt are preparing to face Malawi on Friday, November 13, at Cairo International Stadium.
The match is scheduled to kick off at 9:00 PM local time as part of the third round of qualifying for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Pharaohs will be looking for a positive result as they continue their qualification campaign.
The coaching staff also sees the upcoming matches as an opportunity to improve team performances and build stronger understanding between players.
Speaking about squad selection, Hassan emphasized that every Egyptian player has a chance to represent the national team, regardless of previous selections.
He explained that performance, commitment, and consistency at club level remain the main factors behind selection decisions.
Hassan added that the coaching staff regularly monitors talented players and is willing to give opportunities to new faces who prove themselves.
He also highlighted the importance of young players, explaining that the national team wants to introduce promising talents while recognizing that mistakes are a normal part of football and should not automatically end a player's international chances.
El Shenawy Receives Support as Hassan Addresses Salah and Marmoush Reports
Ibrahim Hassan also defended Egypt goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy following recent controversy surrounding comments linked to the experienced player.
Hassan emphasized that El Shenawy has played an important role for Egypt over the years and deserves recognition for his contributions to the national team.
He called for greater respect for the goalkeeper's career and warned against judging players based on statements shared without their full context.
The national team director criticized attempts to turn minor incidents into major controversies on social media, explaining that such distractions can create unnecessary pressure around the squad.
Hassan also responded to reports suggesting that he was planning to travel to Turkey to watch Mohamed Salah.
He explained that he had heard about the reports but confirmed that no official decision had been made regarding such a trip.
Meanwhile, Hassan revealed that members of Egypt's coaching staff could travel to England to monitor Omar Marmoush as part of their ongoing efforts to assess Egyptian players competing abroad.
These scouting plans are intended to help the coaching staff evaluate players' performances and physical condition before future international matches.
Hassan's comments come as Egypt's coaching staff looks to maintain stability, reduce outside pressure, and keep the players focused on their upcoming responsibilities.
With the Malawi match approaching, the Pharaohs will be aiming to continue their qualification campaign with a strong performance as they pursue a place at the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
