Al Ahly and Zamalek Fined 100,000 EGP Each Over Derby Chants; Ibrahim Salah Suspended

The Egyptian Professional Clubs Association has announced a series of disciplinary decisions following Matchweek 6 of the 2026-2027 Egyptian Premier League season.
The derby between Al Ahly and Zamalek attracted the most attention, with both clubs receiving financial penalties and Zamalek assistant coach Ibrahim Salah being handed a suspension.
The decisions followed the 133rd Cairo derby, which ended in a 2-0 victory for Al Ahly.
However, the discussion surrounding the match continued after the final whistle, as incidents on the pitch and offensive chants from supporters led to official disciplinary action.
Derby Penalties
The league imposed a fine of EGP 100,000 on Al Ahly and issued a formal warning to the club after sections of its supporters directed offensive collective chants toward Zamalek fans during the match.
Zamalek received the same punishment, with a fine of EGP 100,000 and a formal warning following similar offensive chants from its supporters toward Al Ahly fans.
The penalties also included Zamalek assistant coach Ibrahim Salah, who received a one-match suspension and an EGP 10,000 fine after being sent off during the derby.
As a result, the total financial penalties connected to the Al Ahly-Zamalek match reached EGP 210,000.
Both clubs were fined EGP 100,000 each, while Ibrahim Salah received the remaining EGP 10,000 penalty.
These decisions come as the derby continues to attract attention following Al Ahly's 2-0 victory.
The sanctions also show the league's approach to handling crowd misconduct and disciplinary incidents under its competition regulations.

The disciplinary decisions extended beyond the Cairo derby, with several players from different clubs receiving suspensions and fines for accumulated yellow cards, red cards, and dangerous challenges.
In the match between Al Qanah and Al Masry, Mohamed Sayed Mohamed Makhlouf of Al Masry received a one-match suspension and an EGP 5,000 fine after collecting his third yellow card.

The Egyptian Professional Clubs Association also confirmed that Article 54 of the 2026-2027 league regulations will apply.
This article covers disciplinary procedures related to yellow cards issued to players, coaches, administrative staff, and medical team members.
Overall, Matchweek 6 produced several disciplinary decisions affecting clubs and players across the Egyptian Premier League.
However, the Al Ahly-Zamalek derby remained the main focus because of the financial penalties imposed on both clubs, keeping the match in the headlines even after the action on the pitch had ended.
