Petrol Asyut Accept Ahmed Abdel Maqsoud’s Resignation After Zamalek Defeat

Ahmed Abdel Maksoud has ended his time as head coach of Petrol Assiut after announcing his departure following the team's 1-0 defeat to Zamalek in the Egyptian Premier League.
The club later officially confirmed that it had accepted his resignation.
His departure follows a difficult start to the season, with results falling short of expectations.
The decision brings an end to a period in which Abdel Maksoud successfully guided Petrol Assiut to the Premier League despite limited resources and strong competition from clubs with much larger budgets.
Petrol Assiut suffered a 1-0 defeat against Zamalek at Borg El Arab Stadium in the seventh round of the Egyptian Premier League.
Ahmed Sherif scored the winning goal, making the match Abdel Maksoud's final game in charge.
Abdel Maksoud Explains His Exit
In a statement published on his personal Facebook account, Abdel Maksoud explained that he had decided to leave after carefully considering the circumstances surrounding the team.
He stressed that he had given his best throughout his time at Petrol Assiut and remained proud of what the club had achieved under his leadership.
The coach explained that his journey began with a major challenge, but the team managed to secure promotion to the Premier League thanks to the combined efforts of the players, coaching staff, and club management.
He added that Petrol Assiut entered the new season with almost the same resources and approach used during its promotion campaign, despite facing stronger opponents with bigger budgets and more experience in the top division.
Abdel Maksoud said the coaching staff had worked hard to achieve the best possible results under difficult circumstances, even though the team's performances and results had not fully met expectations.
He also mentioned that certain issues had affected the team's focus during his time at the club.
According to the coach, some individuals had attempted to create distractions, but he chose to concentrate on his responsibilities rather than become involved in those matters.
The departing coach thanked club president Ehab Fayez and the board of directors for their support throughout his time in charge.
He also expressed his appreciation to Petrol Assiut's supporters and said he would always remember his time at the club with pride.
Petrol Assiut Begins a New Chapter
Petrol Assiut officially announced through its Facebook page that the club had accepted Abdel Maksoud's request to step down, confirming his departure just hours after his personal statement.
The coaching change comes during a difficult start to the Egyptian Premier League season.
Petrol Assiut have collected only five points from their opening seven matches, recording one victory, two draws, and four defeats.
The team currently sit 16th in the league standings, leaving them under pressure to improve their results and move away from the lower positions.
Despite the disappointing end to his time in charge, Abdel Maksoud's biggest achievement remains guiding Petrol Assiut to the Egyptian Premier League, completing a difficult promotion campaign.
With his departure now confirmed, Petrol Assiut face a new challenge as they look to rebuild their momentum, improve their performances, and secure their place in the top division.
