The draw for the group stages of the 2026-2027 CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup has revealed several exciting challenges for Egyptian clubs, with Zamalek, Pyramids and Al Ahly discovering their opponents.

The draw took place on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at the Confederation of African Football headquarters in Cairo, attracting significant attention from Egyptian football fans.

Zamalek and Pyramids will compete in the CAF Champions League, while Al Ahly will participate in the CAF Confederation Cup, with all three clubs hoping to challenge for continental titles.

Zamalek and Pyramids Face Champions League Challenges

Zamalek have been drawn into Group B alongside Algeria's MC Alger, Tunisia's Club Africain and Tanzania's Young Africans.

The Egyptian club returns to the Champions League group stage after a three-year absence, having defeated Rwanda's APR FC in the second preliminary round.

Zamalek won both legs 1-0, securing a 2-0 aggregate victory and booking their place in the group stage.

The team will now aim to make a strong return to continental competition, although difficult matches await against experienced African opponents.

Meanwhile, Pyramids have been placed in Group D alongside Sudan's Al Hilal, Guinea's Horoya and Morocco's MAS Fes.

Pyramids qualified after defeating South Sudan's Al Merrikh Bentiu 5-0 on aggregate, winning the first leg 1-0 before securing a 4-0 victory in the return match.

The Egyptian side enter the group stage with confidence after an excellent start to their domestic league campaign.

Pyramids have won all seven of their opening Egyptian Premier League matches, collecting 21 points and moving to the top of the standings.

Pyramids are expected to begin their group-stage campaign against MAS Fes in Cairo, hoping to secure an important opening victory.

Al Ahly Face Raja in the Confederation Cup

In the CAF Confederation Cup, Al Ahly have been drawn into Group A alongside Morocco's Raja Casablanca, Angola's Primeiro de Agosto and Togo's ASKO de Kara.

The matches between Al Ahly and Raja are expected to be among the most exciting fixtures in the group because of both clubs' history and experience in African competitions.

Al Ahly reached the group stage after defeating Uganda's Kitara FC in the preliminary round.

The Egyptian giants won the away leg 2-1 before securing a convincing 4-0 victory in Cairo, completing a 6-1 aggregate win.

Al Ahly will now look to build on their strong start and continue their pursuit of another African trophy.

Meanwhile, Egyptian club ZED FC were eliminated from the competition after drawing 1-1 with Tanzania's Azam United in Cairo before losing the return leg 1-0.

As a result, Al Ahly remain Egypt's representative in the Confederation Cup group stage, while Zamalek and Pyramids continue their campaigns in the Champions League.

The upcoming matches will be important for all three Egyptian clubs, with Zamalek aiming to regain their continental strength, Pyramids hoping to maintain their impressive form and Al Ahly looking to add another African title to their collection.

The main question for Egyptian football fans is whether all three clubs can advance from their groups and continue competing for continental glory.
