Mohamed Salah Street Gets Go-Ahead in Turkey’s Trabzon

Egyptian football star Mohamed Salah, who plays for Turkish club Trabzonspor, is set to receive a special honor away from the football pitch.
Local authorities in Trabzon have decided to name a street after him in recognition of his popularity and positive impact since joining the club.
The decision marks an unprecedented moment for the Turkish city, as Yomra Municipality prepares to honor the Egyptian player, who has won the hearts of local fans and become one of the most popular figures in the area.
Mustafa Biyik, the mayor of Yomra in Trabzon, revealed during an interview with ON Sport that the idea came after the excitement surrounding Salah's arrival at Trabzonspor and his impressive performances for the team.
He explained that Salah's presence in the city means more than football success.
The Egyptian star has become a source of pride for local residents, encouraging officials to find a special way to show their appreciation.
A Historic Decision Gets Official Approval
The mayor confirmed that the proposal to name a street after Mohamed Salah was presented to the local council, where every member voted in favor of the decision without any objections.
Following the unanimous vote, the municipality began the legal process required to make the decision official.
According to Turkish regulations, naming a street after a foreign citizen requires approval from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
As a result, the municipality submitted an official request to obtain permission.
Surprisingly, the approval arrived within just one week, even though such procedures usually take longer because authorities need to review information about the person being honored.
The mayor explained that the decision has now received official approval, and the municipality is preparing to produce the street signs carrying Mohamed Salah's name.
He also highlighted the importance of the occasion, confirming that this is the first time a foreign football player has been honored with a street named after him in the history of Yomra and Trabzon.
Salah Set for Special Opening Ceremony
The mayor also revealed that Trabzonspor officials had informed Mohamed Salah about the decision and that the Egyptian star was very happy to receive such a special honor.
Interestingly, the selected street is located along the route Salah normally takes when driving home.
This means the Egyptian player will pass through the street almost every day and see his name displayed on its signs.
Yomra Municipality is now preparing to send Salah an official invitation to attend the opening ceremony, hoping he will be able to join local officials and residents for the celebration.
According to the mayor, the street is expected to open within 20 days of his statements, once the signs have been produced, installed, and all necessary preparations are completed.
The decision reflects Salah's growing popularity among Trabzonspor supporters and shows that his influence now extends beyond his performances on the football pitch.
As the Egyptian star continues his journey with the Turkish club, his name is preparing to become part of Trabzon's streets and local history.
The honor adds another memorable chapter to Salah's football career, showing how his presence has created a strong connection with the city and its people.
