Three Straight Defeats Before U17 World Cup as Egypt Lose to Canada and Finish Sixth in Switzerland

Egypt's 2009-born national youth team ended their participation in the International Friendship Cup in Switzerland with a 4-2 defeat against Canada on Saturday, October 3, 2026, in the match to decide fifth and sixth place.
The result left Egypt, coached by Hussein Abdel Latif, in sixth place among the eight participating teams.
The tournament was part of the team's preparations for the FIFA U-17 World Cup scheduled for November.
The match featured several dramatic moments.
Egypt were reduced to ten players during the first half but continued fighting to get back into the game before Canada secured victory with a late fourth goal.
Red Card and Comeback
Egypt entered the match hoping to finish the tournament with a positive result, but their task became much harder when Mohannad Magdy received a red card in the 24th minute following a challenge on a Canadian player.
Canada took advantage of having an extra player and opened the scoring through Prince Kaidi in the 38th minute.
Tristan Blaise doubled Canada's lead in the 44th minute, sending the Canadian side into halftime with a comfortable 2-0 advantage.
Egypt responded quickly after the break when substitute Amir Abou El Ezz scored in the 47th minute, reducing the deficit to 2-1 and giving his team renewed hope.
However, Canada's Quinton Belvon restored the two-goal advantage in the 61st minute, leaving Egypt facing another difficult challenge.
Despite playing with ten men, Egypt continued pushing forward.
Substitute Adham Hassib scored in the 76th minute to make it 3-2 and bring the team back into contention.
Egypt increased their attacking efforts during the closing minutes, searching for an equalizer.
However, Canada settled the match in the third minute of stoppage time when Alexander Makarova scored with a header following a corner kick, completing the 4-2 victory.
Switzerland Campaign
Head coach Hussein Abdel Latif selected Abdelaziz Mahmoud as Egypt's starting goalkeeper against Canada.
The defensive line included Adel Alaa, Mohamed Sabry, Mohamed El Sayed, known as "Diesel," and Mohamed Gamal.
Ahmed Bashir, Mohannad Magdy, Daniel Tamer, Seif Karim, and Ziad Saudi started in midfield, with Khaled Mokhtar leading the attack.
The substitutes were Malek Amr, Mohamed Obeid, Adam Youssef, Amir Hassan, Abdullah Amr, Ahmed Safwat, Youssef Abdullah, Adham Hassib, and Amir Abou El Ezz.
Egypt began their campaign against South Korea in an exciting match that ended 2-2 in regular time before the Egyptian team won the penalty shootout 4-2.
Following that opening match, Egypt suffered a 2-1 defeat against England before losing by the same score to Colombia.
Those results placed Egypt third in their group and sent them into the fifth-place playoff against Canada.
The defeat against Canada was Egypt's third loss of the competition and confirmed their sixth-place finish.
Although the results were disappointing, the four matches gave the coaching staff an opportunity to test the players against teams with different playing styles and evaluate their performances before a major international tournament.
Egypt are preparing to compete in the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar this November.
Hussein Abdel Latif and his coaching staff will now look to use the experience gained in Switzerland to address the mistakes seen during the tournament and improve the team's readiness for the challenges ahead.
