Egypt's men's national handball team is preparing for another major international challenge at the 2027 IHF Men's World Championship, which will take place in Germany from January 13 to 31, bringing together 32 teams competing for the title.
The draw placed Egypt in Group B alongside Italy, Cape Verde, and Saudi Arabia.
Egypt will begin with three matches that will decide whether the team advances to the main round, where tougher opponents could include host nation Germany.
The tournament offers Egypt another opportunity to build on its previous World Championship performances.
Egyptian fans will be hoping to see their team reach the later stages of the competition.
Egypt's Fixtures
Egypt will begin its World Championship campaign against Cape Verde on Wednesday, January 13, 2027.
The second match will take place against Saudi Arabia on Friday, January 15, before Egypt finishes the preliminary round against Italy on Sunday, January 17.
Egypt's complete preliminary-round schedule, in Cairo time, is as follows:
- Wednesday, January 13: Egypt vs Cape Verde, 9:30 PM.
- Friday, January 15: Egypt vs Saudi Arabia, 7:00 PM.
- Sunday, January 17: Egypt vs Italy, 9:30 PM.
All three matches will be played at Porsche Arena in Stuttgart, Germany, which will host every Group B fixture.
The schedule gives Egypt one rest day between matches, allowing the coaching staff to prepare for each opponent and manage the demands of the tournament.
Every result will matter, not only for qualification from the group but also because Egypt's preliminary-round results could affect its position in the next stage.
Road to the Quarterfinals
The 2027 World Championship will feature 32 national teams divided into eight groups of four.
The top three teams from each group will advance to the main round, while the fourth-placed team will move into the President's Cup, which determines the lower positions in the final standings.
If Egypt qualifies, it will enter a six-team main-round group alongside the three qualifying teams from Group A.
That group includes Germany, Tunisia, Serbia, and Uruguay, creating the possibility of a meeting between Egypt and the tournament hosts.
Egypt would face the three advancing teams from Group A without playing its former Group B opponents again.
An important part of the tournament format is that teams carry forward the points earned against opponents who also advance from their preliminary group.
However, results against the fourth-placed team are not carried into the main round.
This makes Egypt's opening three matches especially important, as collecting points early could improve the team's chances of reaching the knockout stage.
Egypt's potential main-round matches will take place at the LANXESS Arena in Cologne, which will also host the decisive stages of the tournament.
Only the top two teams from each six-team main-round group will qualify for the quarterfinals, meaning every result will count.
The quarterfinals are scheduled for January 26 and 27, followed by the semifinals on January 29 and the final on January 31.
Egypt's first objective will be to advance from Group B with as many points as possible before facing stronger competition in the main round.
A possible meeting with Germany, if both teams qualify, could become one of the key challenges in Egypt's journey.
The main question is whether Egypt can turn a positive start into a quarterfinal appearance and then take another step forward on the world stage.
