El Khatib Accepts Medhat Shalaby's Apology as Al Ahly Drops All Lawsuits

The dispute between sports presenter Medhat Shalaby and Al Ahly president Mahmoud El Khatib has come to an end after the club announced that El Khatib had accepted Shalaby's apology and instructed its legal representative to drop all lawsuits filed against him.
The decision brings an end to a controversy that began over Shalaby's comments about El Khatib's absence from Al Ahly's trip to the United States for the FIFA Club World Cup.
The development followed a video published by Shalaby on his official Facebook account, in which he publicly apologized to El Khatib and admitted that he had shared incorrect information without properly checking its accuracy.
El Khatib Accepts Apology
Mohamed Othman, Al Ahly's legal adviser, announced that Mahmoud El Khatib had accepted Medhat Shalaby's apology and instructed him to take the necessary steps to withdraw all legal cases filed against the sports presenter.
In a statement shared on Facebook, Othman explained that the Al Ahly president appreciated Shalaby's apology and decided to end the legal dispute after the presenter admitted that his earlier comments were based on inaccurate information.
The decision reflects El Khatib's willingness to move beyond the controversy following Shalaby's public apology and his expression of respect for the Al Ahly president and his achievements.
The disagreement began when Shalaby discussed why El Khatib had not traveled to the United States during Al Ahly's participation in the FIFA Club World Cup.
At the time, Shalaby claimed that the club president's absence was linked to a failure to obtain a US visa rather than health-related circumstances.
His comments sparked controversy and criticism, leading Shalaby to later clarify that the information he had received was incorrect and that he had failed to verify it before sharing it with the public.
Shalaby Admits Mistake
In his apology video, Medhat Shalaby explained that he had never intended to offend Mahmoud El Khatib or question his health condition.
He said the information about the US visa came from a source he believed was reliable.
However, he later discovered that the information was false and acknowledged that his main mistake was failing to check its accuracy before discussing it publicly.
Shalaby also praised El Khatib, describing him as one of the most important figures in Egyptian football history, both as a former player and as president of Al Ahly.
He highlighted El Khatib's achievements throughout his career and expressed his appreciation for his contribution to Egyptian football and the club.
The presenter explained that he had previously addressed the issue during Ramadan but wanted to renew his apology publicly to clear up any remaining misunderstanding.
Shalaby stressed that his apology was a personal decision based on his recognition of the mistake, rather than pressure or other considerations.
He also extended his apology to El Khatib's family, supporters, and admirers, wishing the Al Ahly president continued good health and success.
With El Khatib accepting the apology and instructing the club's legal adviser to withdraw the lawsuits, the dispute is now moving toward a complete resolution.
The incident highlights the importance of verifying information before sharing it publicly, especially when it concerns well-known figures.
It also shows how acknowledging mistakes and offering a sincere apology can help resolve disputes without further escalation.
